Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Tour

The principal guide from our company will be Abraham who has a degree in Biology from the University of Guadalajara and has special interest and studies in Butterflies.  Other local guides will be contracted for tours in Morelia and Guadalajara.

We are looking at a tour of 4 days and 3 nights.  We are hoping to fly from PVR to Morelia.  (It may be 8 to 9 hours bus ride) We will have a walking tour of Morelia that afternoon.  Dinner on Own.  Hotel in Morelia 2 nights.  Day 2 bus to Sanctuary.  Lunch in Pizacaro.  Day 3 Bus to Guadalajara.  Walking tour of El Centro.  Check in to Hotel.  Bus to Tlaquepaque for walking tour and dinner with the famous Mariachis.  Over night in Guadalajara Hotel. Bus tour of El Centro Guadalajara then drive to Tequila.  Lunch on own in Tequila.  Distillery tour of one of the major brands.  Drive to Puerto Vallarta (4 hours from Tequila)

• TBA - this is all TBA - We are still creating this tour and are looking into flying from PVR to Morelia to eliminate that first day's 8 to 9 hour bus ride.  

• Walking Difficulty:  Moderate  (Normally easy walks however at the Monarch Sanctuary, the elevation is between 9,000 to 10,000 feet high and you will get out of breath very easily as you walk the hundreds of stairs on the walking path into the heart of the Sanctuary.  

• Meet at 7:00 AM on departure morning in Central Puerto Vallarta for our 8 to 9  hour bus ride to Morelia (exact location and directions will be in your email confirmation after reserving.  (or at 10 am if we fly) ​

• Return approximately 7 PM 4 days later.  

• Wear comfortable walking shoes, hat, and have water or other hydration. Also dress in lawyers as it may be very cold as you begin our walk at the sanctuary.  You will warm up quickly. 

• Bring a umbrella for hot sunny days for personal shade.    

• Meals are not included.  We find we like to keep the prices as low as possible and let everyone choose the type of meals they wish to order (and ensure that meals are not cheap "banquet" meals that it works out better that all pay on their own.  

• Bring Pesos for shopping - many of the merchants in Michoacan do not accept cards.  (and we highly encourage our guests to shop as much as their budget will allow as Michoacan does not get a lot of tourists so every purchase will help the merchant pay for essentials - not luxuries.

• This tour is non-cancelable however the names may be transferred up until the time of departure.
